G7 foreign ministers tell Iran to stop arming the Houthis

The foreign ministers of the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States issued a joint statement on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly calling on Iran to "end its arming of and support" for the Houthis in Yemen.

The ministers condemned Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and said the recent escalation along the Red Sea coast threatens regional and global energy security. They called on the Houthis to cease all military actions, stop threatening civilian shipping, and return to political talks.

Iran has repeatedly denied supplying weapons to the Houthis, saying its support is political only. Western naval forces have intercepted Iranian weapons shipments bound for Yemen during the war, and a UN expert panel concluded in 2024 that Iran's Revolutionary Guards, Hezbollah, and Iraqi specialists had transformed the Houthis into a powerful military organization through materiel, training, and assistance.

The statement was issued ahead of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's scheduled address to the General Assembly.
