Hydrogen tanker overturns in Bellingham; no spill, homes evacuated

A tanker truck carrying liquid hydrogen overturned on Taylor Street in Bellingham's Happy Valley neighborhood Monday afternoon after a collision between 32nd Street and Douglas Avenue. Bellingham Fire Department said no injuries or hazardous material spills were reported.

Fire officials evacuated homes and businesses within a 500-foot radius and shut off power in the area as a precaution. Police closed the road for several hours and said updates would come once the truck is righted and removed. Joe's Gardens, a farm whose entrance was blocked by the closure, said it would stay shut for the rest of the day.
