Merz pledges to hold coalition together after CDU election losses

Chancellor Friedrich Merz called his party's defeat in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern "a disaster" and described the state elections as "a profound turning point" for Germany's party system. He acknowledged he played a role but said the results "go far beyond just me." AfD co-leader Alice Weidel told the BBC Merz would leave office "pretty soon."
